Interactive Map

Our interactive map captures place-based projects that are tackling systemic challenges in collaboration alongside their communities and in collaboration with local stakeholders e.g. Local Authorities across the UK. Drawing on data from 15 funders, it is a snapshot of projects whose grants were active in Quarter One (January-March) 2024. Alongside the map we be publishing ecosystem report sharing insights into the trends and patterns of systemic place-based working. The map and report will be updated annually.

Whilst the map is an ongoing development project, the purpose is to enable connection and collaboration across funders and community organisations. We welcome feedback and suggestions about how to improve this project to benefit those who are working towards place-based goals.

Notes & FAQ's

How do I add my project to the map?

The map will be updated annually. If you want us to include your work in the next version or make any changes to the information in the current map please email us at admin@placematters.co.uk

Where did the idea to create a map come from and who is it for?

The idea came from a group of place-based funders who are exploring opportunities to collaborate more closely. They identified the usefulness of sharing information about what projects each were currently funding to better understand where there are common interests around beneficiaries, impact goals, geography and organisations being funded.

It was agreed that the map would be more generally useful to a broader group of people and projects doing this work and Place Matters who has created the map would publish it on our website.

The data on my project is wrong. What should I do?

We have tried to validate the accuracy of the data with each funder and project team before publishing it, but if you spot inaccuracies drop us an email at admin@placematters.co.uk explaining what needs to change and we’ll make the change as soon as we can.

How will the map be used?

In addition to providing a snapshot of systemic place-based working we hope that it will be a means through which people and projects tackling similar challenges can connect. Place Matters will also be inviting teams to come together from time to time to enable these connections and share their learning and experience.

Funders tell us they will use the map to see where other funders are supporting projects and places so they can make better informed funding choices.

How were the projects identified and the data captured?

The projects are those funded by the group of funders identified in the dropdown box in the map. Funders provided information from their grants database and each project was given the opportunity to edit the data before the map went live. We are happy to make changes at the request of funders or projects if data is inaccurate at Q1 2024 when the snapshot was captured.

We hope to include a broader range of projects in the next iteration and are keen via admin@placematters.co.uk to hear from projects tackling systemic challenges alongside the community and other co-collaborators whose work will be live in Q1 2025 when we will next update the map.

What data has been collected from projects?

In addition to data included in the map we have captured other data that we are sharing in a report that you can access here/below (check on the website format). We hope the report helps decision makers understand the landscape of systemic place-based work and see opportunities to provide better support.
